"Having the right to say idiotic and douchie things" does not mean never having to face negative consequences for anything you say. Firing him would be a perfectly reasonable response and wouldn't violate his rights like you seem to be suggesting. Anyway, not supporting his sponsors/stations like you suggest would be putting pressure on his employers to have him fired. It'll never happen though, controversy sells, and I'm sure his ratings are doing great

You are right. People should face consequences for their hateful speech. I'm a civil libertarian, and sometimes I forget that civil liberty doesn't necessarily grant free license.
You're also right that controversy sells. He was doing his job and generating controversy. Ugh.
